Daniel J. McCarey is a native of New Jersey and the oldest of 6 children. Upon graduating from Christian Brothers Academy (CBA) in Lincroft, New Jersey, he attended Villanova University where he obtained a B.A. in Political Science, with honors, in 1998. While at Villanova, Dan was a varsity Big East athlete, member of a national honor society, active in student government, and the president of his fraternity.
Daniel J. McCarey attended Loyola Law School in Los Angeles, California and earned his J.D. in 2001. During law school, Dan clerked for a prominent Los Angeles law firm where he continued to work as an associate upon graduating from law school. During his tenure as a practicing lawyer in California, Dan represented some of the biggest names in Hollywood and corporate America.
In 2006, Dan returned to the New York metropolitan area and began practicing at a lower Manhattan law firm where he litigated cases in New York, New Jersey, and Connecticut. Dan founded the Law Office of Daniel J. McCarey, LLC in 2011.
Dan is licensed to practice in New Jersey, New York, Connecticut, and California. In 2014, he was admitted to practice before the United States Supreme Court.
In his free time, Dan enjoys spending time with his wife and two young daughters, going to Yankees games, and rooting for the Villanova Wildcats.
Jennifer N. Plant
Senior Associate
Jennifer was born and raised in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania. She attended the University of Delaware where she was a double major in Psychology and Criminal Justice with a minor in Sociology. Upon graduating from Delaware in 2000, Jennifer pursued a Master’s Degree in Forensic Psychology from John Jay College of Criminal Justice in New York City. Jennifer graduated from John Jay in 2002 and began her work with the Juvenile Rights Division of the Legal Aid Society of New York. There, Jennifer worked with children in foster care and those involved in juvenile delinquency proceedings. It was there at the Legal Aid Society that Jennifer decided to pursue a law degree.
Jennifer attended New York Law School where she was Executive Articles Editor of the New York Law School Law Review, a Harlan Scholar, Justice Action Center Affiliate, and a peer tutor. While in law school, Jennifer was an intern with the United States Attorney’s Office for the Southern District of New York. Jennifer graduated, magna cum laude, from NYLS in 2006.
Jennifer began practicing at a lower Manhattan law firm where she focused on negligence and labor law matters. Jennifer then joined AIG in 2010 as a member of a specialized department concentrating on environmental matters, such as those stemming from Hurricane Sandy and the Deepwater Horizon oil spill. Jennifer joined the Law Office of Daniel J. McCarey, LLC in 2013.
Jennifer is licensed to practice in New York and New Jersey.
In her spare time, Jennifer enjoys spending time with her husband and daughters, reading, watching reality television, and volunteering at her daughters’ schools.
Gillian Kost
Of Counsel
A native of New Jersey, Gillian received her BA in French and Journalism from Lehigh University in 2002. She then attended New York Law School and earned her J.D. in 2005.
Gillian has over a decade of experience in complex litigation. Prior to serving as of counsel, she worked at a prominent New York law firm representing property owners, maintenance companies, contractors, and developers in premises liability, personal injury, mass tort, toxic tort, construction defect, and products liability cases. She also has a wealth of experience in the public sector, having served as counsel to hundreds of New York City public schools where she advised principals and Superintendents on employment matters and education law.
Gillian is licensed to practice in New Jersey, New York, the Southern and Eastern Districts of New York, and the District of New Jersey. Gillian also mediates disputes throughout the State of New Jersey and is a member of the NJ Association of Professional Mediators.
In her free time, Gillian enjoys spending time with her husband and young daughter.
Portia Reid
Of Counsel
Portia attended Rutgers University where she majored in communications and political science. Upon graduating from Rutgers in 2005, Portia attended Seton Hall University School of Law where she was a member of the Sports and Entertainment Law Journal. Portia graduated from Seton Hall in 2008.
Prior to serving as of counsel, Portia was a litigation associate with a national law firm where her practice concentrated on general liability and casualty defense, commercial law, insurance coverage, premises liability, and personal injury matters.
Portia is licensed to practice in New York and New Jersey, as well as the Southern District of New York, the District of New Jersey, and the Second Circuit Court of Appeals.
In her spare time, Portia enjoys spending time with her husband and three young children.
